Creative Software partners with the University of Moratuwa to develop an autonomous driving system

Creative Software has partnered with the University of Moratuwa to embark on a research project focusing on driverless car technology. Main objectives of the program are to strengthen local R&D capacity in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly, Machine Learning and forge even closer ties between industry and academia.

Creative Software CTO Manusha Wijekoon speaking on the benefits of the project said: “This project opens up a number of possibilities; we get to contribute to innovation in one of the most important industries in the world. In addition to our contributions to a driverless future, the methods, algorithms and techniques that will emanate from this project can be adapted to other subsequent ventures in AI and machine learning.”

The quick progression in this field of research and growing opportunities for its adoption, has piqued the interest of both Creative Software and University of Moratuwa. They are confident that developing and embracing this new technology will open-up new research opportunities, create new jobs and lead to economic growth in Sri Lanka. The University views this as an ideal opportunity for undergraduates to further develop their skills in Machine Learning and AI, and set them on a path towards a successful career in IT.

According to Dr. Ranga Rodrigo, a member of the research project at the University of Moratuwa, the opportunity to work on a project involving a self-driving car opens up new avenues:

“The entire team is excited to be part of this program. It is a great opportunity for our students to work on a project using such cutting-edge technology. Working on a project like this will give our students the opportunity to put all their theoretical knowledge to practical use. We are delighted that Creative Software decided to collaborate with us to bring this vision to life.”

Dr. Peshala Jayasekara leads the project in the University of Moratuwa.
